Clayton Clark Howell Jr. died Oct. 25, 2014 at the age of 88.

He was born Sept. 23, 1926, and married Shirley Mae Howell on July 1, 1947.

He grew up in west-end Houston and was a member of White Oak Baptist Church.

Growing up he enjoyed the water, roller skating, going to the movies and dancing.

Throughout his life he enjoyed masonic work, the U.S. Navy, boating, water skiing, jet skiing, hunting, working on boat or car engines and the oil rigs in Oklahoma.

He served in the Unites States Navy as Seaman 1st class from 1943-1946.

He was also a 32-degree master mason and a member of the Pasadena Masonic Lodge #1155.

He was known to be outgoing and befriended many in the Spicewood community. He was also a member of Spicewood Baptist Church.

He is survived by: daughters, Connie Mae Howell Heller and Kellie Mayes Howell Laney;  his grandchildren, Stacey Holliday, Deedee Mae Denby, Bertie Diane Denby, Kimberly Rochelle Laney Tonkin and S. Gregory Laney; great-grandchildren Kaleb Jeffrey Johnson, Saylar Clayton Denby, John Ayers, Taylor Bryan Johnson, Laney Tonkin, Brantley Laney, Bradley Laney, and his niece, Kari Lee Browning.

Howell was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Shirley Mae Howell; his mother, Helen Keller Gray; his father, Clayton Clark Howell Sr.; a sister, Margaret Griffin; a brother-in-law, Ray Griffin, and a grandson, Jeffrey Marcus Laney.

Visitation was held for family and friends on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Marble Falls.

A funeral service was held Wednesday Oct. 29, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 Highway 281 North in Marble Falls, and a reception followed at the Spicewood Beach Recreation Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions in Howell's name be made to: American Melanoma Foundation 4150 Regents Park Row, Suite 300, La Jolla, CA 92037; the

American Cancer Society - Melanoma Charities, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718; the Spicewood Volunteer Fire Department, 9805 Highway 71, Spicewood, TX 78669, or to Spicewood Baptist Church, 7903 County Road 404, Spicewood, TX 78669.
