Aggravated assault suspect Rodriguez indicted

Abel Rodriguez, 47, the suspect in an aggravated assault in Granite Shoals, was transported to a state facility on Friday, Dec. 12.
Rodriguez faces a parole violation, as well as local criminal charges for shooting at peace officers in Burnet County.
Rodriguez is accused of three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and attempted capital murder after he allegedly shot at officers in April.
He was indicted in June on three aggravated assault charges. District attorneys declined to prosecute on the charge of attempted capital murder.
Rodriguez was arrested at his residence in the 900 block of Kingswood Drive back on Sunday, April 13, following an altercation with Burnet County Sheriff's Deputies and a Texas DPS Trooper who were in the area in response to a hit-and-run accident.
Following the incident, Burnet County Special Operations Unit Capt. Dwight Hardin said as the officers were investigating on the property, which is occupied by several mobile homes, shots were fired. Hardin said the officers on scene who were standing outdoors with residents felt they were being targeted with the gunfire.
Rodriguez was later apprehended at his residence when officers suspected him responsible for the original hit and run accident and the shots fired, Hardin said.
Rodriguez was booked in Burnet County Jail that day on bond of $575, 000, where he remained until his transfer this past Friday.
