Rebecca Edith Meneley Waller, 91, died at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, March 11, 2015.
She was born as the eighth of 10 children on Nov. 2, 1923, in Gonzales, Texas. to Margaret Susie Carleton and John Carl Meneley.
She graduated as a registered nurse from Baptist Memorial Hospital in San Antonio in 1946, and would go on to enjoy a long nursing career, including a 20-year stint as a school nurse in San Marcos.
She had many and varied interests including: quilting, gardening, traveling and spending time with her family, in particular her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
She is survived by: her spouse of 65 years, Lee Gilbert Waller, Sr.; daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Gary Russell of Bryan, Texas, Rebecca and Howard Taylor of San Angelo, Texas, and Emily and Randy Smith, of Horseshoe Bay, and, a son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Priscilla Waller, Jr., of Corpus Christi, Texas.
She is also survived by; grandchildren and their spouses, James and Nikki Russell, of West Fork, Arkansas, Chris and Barbara Russell, of Kensington, New Hampshire, Sarah and Joey Hughes, of Bryan, Hugh and Kathleen Cook, of Foothill Ranch, California, Celia Scanlon of Corpus Christi, Sarah and Barbara Scanlon of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Charlotte and Brian Foster, of St. Joseph, Missouri, Nicholas Scanlon of Corpus Christi, Lauren Alexander of Austin, Logan Norris of Austin, Christopher Smith of Leander, and Ann and Deke Pierce, of Austin; 13 great-grandchildren, and, a sister, Roberta Dettman, of Sugarland, Texas;
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Virginia Norris.
Visitation was held from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, 2015, while a funeral service was held on Monday, March 16, starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 900 Industrial Blvd. of Kingsland.
