Marble Falls angler lands 10-pounder as top bass

It was shortly after the rains slacked off after noon Saturday when Marble Falls High School senior Wes Thornton got a tug on his line.
He was using a light crank bait when the fish hit.
At first, Thornton didn’t think it was anything special.
“I really didn’t think it weighed that much,’’ Thornton said. “I reeled it up and it pikes it’s head out. It was big. I was shaking, I had the jitters.’’
The fish weighed 10 pounds even and gave Thornton the big fish of the day during the Texas State High School Fishing Tournament on Lake LBJ.
It was the only keeper fish Thornton caught for the day. In fact it was his only time t land a keeper in his four years and “30 something’’ attempts with the local fishing club.
Thornton was fishing with his brother Jakob Thornton.
In all, it was good day for Marble Falls Fishing Club, but a great day for the Cen-Tex High School Basshunters out of Belton.
Cen-Tex dominated on a day filled with rain in the morning and smiling high school anglers when it was over in the mid-afternoon. See complete coverage in the Highlander.
