Members of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Horseshoe Bay are getting ready for their first rummage sale fundraiser this weekend, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. both Friday and Saturday, March 27-28.
“People have been bringing in boxes of everything,” said Althea Rowan, Women Working in Communion and Spirit (WICS) member. “Opening each box is a surprise—we have no clue what’s in each one, so it’s been like Christmas.”
Volunteers make sure to open every little box or can because many contain jewelry or other small treasures. Items range in price from 25 cents to a few hundred dollars.
A larger “treasure” to be sold is an original, signed painting by Thomas Kinkade, a painter known as “the Painter of Light.” The painting, worth up to $1,000, was donated anonymously.
One of the more unusual items to be featured is a custom, couture wedding gown. Also ready for purchase are children’s items, clothes, appliances, books and just about everything in between.
The rummage sale, at the Finn Family Life Center at St. Paul’s, is sponsored by WWICS, but proceeds will benefit the church.
