Anna Ruth Matern passed from this life March 22, 2015, at the age of 81. She battled her lengthy illness with courage and grace. She was born July 31, 1933, in Burnet County to William and Joyce Hardin Baker.
Anna is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, William Matern, Jr. of Austin, Texas; children, Frauna (Randy-deceased) Thompson of Marble Falls and William (Jo) Matern III of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Buster Thompson, Jacob Thompson and Bonnie Thompson and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by: her brothers, Gary Baker of El Dorado, Texas, and Ralph Baker of Bertram, Texas; and extended family members.
Anna was preceded in death by: her parents; a sister, Marxine Hall, and a brother, Billie Baker.
In Austin, Anna worked at the Texas School for the Blind as an administrative secretary until she retired in 1988. After retirement, Anna moved back to Fairland where she enjoyed living in the country once again.
Anna was loved by her family and friends for her kindness, generosity and sense of humor.
The family would like to express deepest appreciation to the staff at Granite Mesa Health Center in Marble Falls, Park Bend Health Center in Austin and Odyssey Hospice for their care, kindness and support.
A graveside service was held Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at 10 a.m. at the Fairland Cemetery.
