Burnet County Sheriff’s Deputies are awaiting confirmation of cause of death of skeletal remains found west of Burnet on Tuesday morning.

The remains were located by a utility contractor while checking power lines off FM 3509, west of Burnet. Burnet County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the remains on Tuesday morning, March 31, at 11 a.m.

“Deputies confirmed that the remains were that of a human. Due to the level of decomposition to the body, it appears the remains have been there for an extended period of time,” stated a release from the Burnet County Sheriff’s Department.

Justice of the Peace Calvin Boyd pronounced the remains as deceased. The remains are being transported to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.

The cause of death is unknown, the release said, and the sheriff’s department is awaiting autopsy results.
