More rain on the way

After a week of sunshine, Highland Lakes residents can prepare for more light rains over the weekend.
The National Weather Service predicts temperatures in the low 90s on Saturday and Sunday, with a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms Saturday and Saturday night and a 30 percent chance on Sunday. The likelihood of storms rises to 40 percent on Monday, which will be mostly cloudy.
Lower Colorado River Authority meteorologist Bob Rose wrote in his weather blog that “the weather pattern does look to change beginning Friday as a weak, non-tropical area of low pressure over the central Gulf of Mexico tracks west, pushing tropical moisture into southeast Texas.”
Rose said the increased moisture will lead to scattered showers and thunderstorms across the middle and upper Texas coast, with a few isolated rain showers possible in parts of Central Texas.
“The area of low pressure is forecast to slowly push west toward the upper Texas coast this weekend through early next week, pushing tropical moisture as far west as the Hill Country. The increased moisture is expected to cause the development of scattered to numerous rain showers and thunderstorms Saturday through Monday,” Rose wrote.
Rain amounts Saturday through Monday are forecast to average less than a half inch across the Hill Country, between 0.5 and 1 inch across Central Texas and between 1 and 2 inches across the coastal plains, he said.
