Wanda Evelyn Smith, born April 22, 1935, in Hargill, Texas, to Chester Nelson and Susie Lorena McDowell Smith, died on Tuesday, Aug. 25, in Marble Falls, Texas.

She was a direct descendant of Gordon C. Jennings, who died at the Alamo.

She attended schools in Falfurrias, Texas, and upon graduation, was named Outstanding Senior.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wharton, the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Alamo Defenders Descendants Association, Senior Friends, Wharton Book Review Club, Friends of the Library, Wharton County Museum, Patron of the Arts at Wharton County Junior College, associate member of the Sheriff’s Association of Texas, a life member of the Wharton County 100 Club, and a life member of the Wharton Community Theater.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband of 37 years, Larry; a daughter, Sharon; a son, Michael; two sisters, Geneva Jackson and Lorene Garrett, and, a brother, James Smith.

She is survived by: son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Nancy Smith of Marble Falls; son, Jeffrey Smith of Borger, and a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Smith, also of Borger.

Also surviving are: four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Chester Smith, Jr. and wife, Carolyn, of Whitney; a sister, Lou Grams and husband, Michael, of Austin, and brother-in-law, Gavis Garrett of Spokane, Washington.

Services will be private.

Arrangements were under the arrangement of Clements Wilcox Funeral Home of Marble Falls.
