A Burnet County Jury convicted an area man of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon Wednesday after he ambushed his ex-wife outside her Marble Falls home in August 2013.

District Judget Evan Stubbs sentenced Juan Jose Ramirez, Sr. to 10 years in prison for the offense. Ramirez will not be eligible for parole for at least five years because the crime involved a deadly weapon.

According to a District Attorney press release, evidence at the trial showed Ramirez ambushed his ex-wife when she got out of her car at her home and held a large kitchen knife to her throat, threw her cell phone on the ground and kicked her in the stomach.

Ramirez fled in his truck when several members of the victim's family came to her aid,” the release stated.
