The Highland Lakes Farmers Market is set to open in just a week's time on Saturday, Jan. 16, from 9 a.m. - 12 noon in Falls Creek Park, 900 Yett Street in Marble Falls.
In a meeting that concentrated on aspects of recreation in the city, the Marble Falls City Council gave its approval Tuesday night, Jan. 5, to a park concession agreement with the farmers market, a newly-formed 501(c)(6) corporation.
The Highland Lakes Farmers Market will operate under a board of directors to bring fresh produce and other carefully-managed products to the new open-air venue near the Floyd Tillman statue in the park. At the meeting were Janie Christine “J.C.” Cauthen, market administrator, and Cassandra “Sandy” Boulter, market manager.
“We live in a world where people think it is cold in December and you won't find produce,” Cauthen said. “But there are lots of winter crops, including lettuce and greens. They will be available every Saturday now. Sandy and I shared personal experiences and did research on markets across the country; then took the pieces together for something special for the Highland Lakes.”
