Kingsland Quilt Show brings spirit of community, charity

Looking at “Lena’s Sampler,” created by quilter Lena Young when she was 100 years old, prompted a quilter at the 9th annual Kingsland Quilt Show to reflect on the art form.
“You’re never too young or too old to learn to quilt,” said Marge Flowers of Kingsland, Friday, Jan. 16. Flowers, who started quilting when she was in her 30s, is one of around 20 members of the Creative Hearts Quilting Club, most of whom are members of the First Baptist Church in Marble Falls. They spend Tuesdays making creations for charity.
“It feels good to give something to someone, to share love, and to let folks know God loves them,” Flowers said.
For Flowers, and many others, it’s also a way to continue family tradition. “It’s something my grandmothers did, and my husband’s family,” she said. She already knew how to sew, thanks to her mother, a seamstress, but quilting is a new set of skills with its own challenges and rewards.
