Colt Elementary principal to retire at end of school year
Keith Powell, Colt Elementary principal, announced last week that he is retiring at the end of the 2015-2016 school year. The search for a new principal will begin after Spring Break, officials said on Thursday, March 3.
Powell has served the community as a Marble Falls Independent School District (MFISD) administrator since August of 2000, and principal at Colt since 2011.
Past students remember Powell as an assistant principal at Marble Falls High School, Marble Falls Middle School and principal of Highland Lakes Elementary, until becoming principal of Colt Elementary.
In addition to 16 years of service in the MFISD, Powell will retire after 31 years of service educating children in Texas public schools.
“Mr. Powell has served the students, families and community of MFISD faithfully while modeling a positive attitude, kindness and team spirit,” said Dr. Chris Allen, MFISD superintendent. “We celebrate this decision with him while knowing he will be missed. We’re looking forward to celebrating with Mr. Powell and other retirees during the district’s year-end retirement celebrations in May.”
Powell will help transition the new principal into the Colt campus at the beginning of the summer.
MFISD will post the job opening prior to Spring Break.
A principal selection committee will be established following the break to help with applicant screening prior to the selection of final candidates.
The new principal will be recommended to the MFISD Board of Trustees by the superintendent following an extensive selection process that includes community and staff input.
