Blue skies ahead, but not before more storms

A hazardous weather outlook was issued for the Highland Lakes area Thursday and Friday.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook for Burnet, Llano, Williamson, Travis, Blanco and surrounding counties at 3:16 a.m. Thursday, extending to Friday evening.

“Rain chances continue today (Thursday) into tonight with a few embedded thunderstorms possible,” the outlook stated, adding that storm chances would continue through Friday. “A strong storm or two, capable of producing small hail and gusty winds up to 50 miles per hour, will be possible this afternoon and tonight south of Eagle pass to San Antonio line. Brief heavy rainfall will also be possible.”

Highland Lakes residents can expect more rainfall tonight and tomorrow, with the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio reporting 60 percent chance of rain and possible thunderstorms Thursday night and an 80 percent chance of showers on Friday. Wind is expected to be between five and 15 miles per hour coming in from the northeast.

Stormy weather is expected to clear up over the weekend. Rainy days will be followed by a westward wind that brings a mostly cloudy Saturday with a high of 71 degrees, and a sunny Sunday and Monday, with highs in the lowers 80s.

The Lower Colorado River Authority reported rainfall totals over the last two days as follows:

Burnet, 1.60; Marble Falls, 1.59; Backbone Creek at Marble Falls, 1.15; Spicewood, 1.25; Round Mountain, 1.07; Kingsland, 1.55; Lago Vista, 1.92; Buchanan Dam, .64; Tow, 1.30; Bertram, .28.
