Weathering a few isolated thunderstorms through the 33rd Annual Burnet Bluebonnet Festival will be worth it to see what is in store for visitors to the 2016 festival now underway.
“Many of times we have had rain, and it never really effected the festival, but we do have contingency plans for the concert and things if need be,” said Kim Winkler, executive director of the Burnet Chamber of Commerce, host of the event.
With over 30,000 attendees in account for the past three years faulty weather has not stopped the large crowd from enjoying the activities.
“Our vendor number is up and our concert number is up so we think this year will be just as great as previous years,” said Winkler.
With the Might Thomas Carnival rolling into town Thursday night, patrons can enjoy “Family Night” a day early before the official kick-off of the festival.
Opening ceremonies for the 33rd Annual Bluebonnet Festival will start with a fly over by the Commemorative Air Force in at 5:30 p.m., Friday, April 8, on the main stage at the corner of Washington and Main streets.
After the opening ceremonies, the Burnet Bulletin Pet Parade will make its way around the historic Burnet Courthouse Square, followed by the Miss Burnet Bluebonnet Scholarship Pageant back on the main stage.
“So we think that they will be entertained again and we love having it added as a component to the Festival,”
Most of the action will take place on the Historic Burnet Courthouse Square but visitors will discover more on the byways of Burnet each day.
However, don’t forget the events happening off the square such as the kid-pleasing Rubber Ducky Race at Hamilton Creek and the 1st Cavalry demonstration at the Wallace Riddell Park. The 1st Cavalry, who will also be in the Grand Parade, will relocate to the Wallace Riddell Park where they will perform a 30-minute mounted drill and weapons demonstration that provides a thrilling exhibition of the skill and precision required of a trooper while mounted.
Both the race and the demo will start immediately after the Grand Parade. Check out the full schedule of events.
