Worship in the Park, a new, old tradition

Johnson Park will be recognized on the afternoon of April 22 with a Lone Star Legacy Park marker, but event on Sunday, April 17, will be the kind of use that created that legacy: a central gathering place for the City of Marble Falls as early as 1887.
The 5th Annual St. Andrew Picnic in the Park will be held there, as gatherings surely were 130 years ago. The St. Andrew Presbyterian congregation will be joined by Fellowship Baptist Church and Trinity Episcopal Church to host an 11 a.m. worship service in the park amphitheater.
Dinner on the grounds will follow at the park pavilion. The park is located on Backbone Creek 230 Avenue J.
“Everyone is invited to attend,” said the Rev. John N. Brantley, St. Andrew pastor. “Bring a friend. It should be a joyous day with friends in our community.”
Joining Rev. Brantley in the service will be the Rev. David Sugeno, Trinity rector, and the Rev. Jamie Greening, PhD, Fellowship Baptist pastor.
Things to bring to the picnic would be folding chairs, hats and sunscreen and something to share.
The Lone Star Legacy Park dedication will be held at 2 p.m., April 22, also in the park amphitheater.
