Granite Shoals strong with civic leaders

The elected officials of Granite Shoals include a council of six led by Mayor Carl Brugger and they follow a long line of unpaid citizens that have guided the city through its 50-year history.
They are Mayor Pro Tem Shirley King, Eric Tanner, Tom Dillard, Mark Morren and Anita Hisey.
Five of the citizens who have held the title of Mayor of Granite Shoals live in the city today.
They are the current mayor, Carl Brugger, elected in 2015; Dennis Maier, elected in 2011 and 2013; Frank Reilly, elected in  2005, 2007 and 2009 and Pat Crochet, elected in 1999 and appointed in 2004. Crochet did not finish that last term and  King served as mayor in the interim.
First to last, they came to serve the city first through volunteer service on committees, commissions or advisory groups.
Brugger served on the council from  2010 until he was elected mayor in 2015. He and his wife Julie have lived in the city almost nine years. He holds bachelor and master degrees in chemical engineering, a field in which he worked primarily in chemical and plastics manufacturing management. He went on to become a licensed certified public account, a career from which he retired in 2008, while continuing tax season consulting.
When Maier was elected mayor, he came to the task from five years on the city council and a mainstay as a volunteer on the Street and Water Advisory Group. A retire U.S. Air Force officer. He and his wife Donna, long-time chairwoman of the Beautification Advisor Committee, are the parents of two adult children and have lived in the city 17 years.
Reilly lived in Granite Shoals in his youth from 1968-77 and even though the family had moved to Blue Lake Estates in Llano County, he graduated from Marble Falls High School. As an attorney he worked at the Texas Legislature and has had a private law practice since 1999. He served on the city charter committee and as mayor from November, 2005-May, 2011 and has been municipal judge since  June 2015.
Crochet has been married to her husband Larry for 58 years  and they have  seven children, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild.  She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Austin, attended the University of Texas at Austin and worked for the Bell Company before marrying. She was business manager for Holy Angels Catholic Church in San Angelo for 10 years before moving to Granite Shoals 25 years ago.
