More than 100 craft and food booths will line Main Street and downtown merchants will be offering specials for Mother's Day shoppers. And, branch out--Marble Falls is full of specialty stores and shops with unique gifts and something special to wear. Salem's, Madlyn's and Blair's along US 281 have specials on their fashions.

The First Annual Highland Lakes Farmer's Market Spring Festival also will be going on Saturday in Falls Creek Park on the southernmost end of Main Street. More arts and crafts, a petting zoo and other kid-friendly activities will be added to the fare always available there from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Just across Backbone Creek, a stop at Johnson Park is a chance to put Mom's chili recipe up against some top competitors' work at Howdy Roo. Judges for the samplings that begin at 1:30 p.m. are always welcome.

If Mom is a Second-Hand Rose, Burnet is holding its Citywide Garage Sale on the Burnet County Courthouse Square and all over town. Even the Oakalla Community Center, 29011 Farm to Market Road 963, is holding its Pre-Mother's Day Sale (9 a.m.-1 p.m.) at the end of a scenic north county drive.

An evening at the theater is a perfect end to any day on the Mother's Day weekend. Read all about the production of the romantic comedy "Almost, Maine," by Marble Falls High School thespians at Hill Country Community Theater, here, at HighlanderNews.com.

From the Highland Lakes through the Hill Country, the area is dotted with wineries. At least two local vineyards plan something special for Mother's Day.

Got a green thumb on your family tree, take Mom along for the Deer Resistant Plants Workshop, 10 a.m.-noon, Saturday at Backbone Valley Nursery, 4201 Farm to Market Road 1980.
