Longtime Highlander pressman Billy Joe Parnell dies

Billy Joe Parnell

Billy Joe Parnell, 58, passed away on May 10, 2016, in Austin, Texas after battling a lengthy illness. He was the son of Harold and Mary (Hall) Parnell, born in Stephenville, Texas on August 17, 1957.

He worked as a printer for independent newspaper companies in Stephenville, Big Spring, Round Mountain and Marble Falls for more than 30 years and was retired prior to his passing.

When Billy was not working, he lived a life of volunteer service of others as a mentor and guide not only to his own children but to families and their children participating in youth sports such as football, basketball and baseball throughout the community.

He enjoyed coaching youth sports, camping with family and friends and attending sports and community events and music concerts.

Billy is survived by his children, Aidin Parnell and Chloe Parnell and their mother Connie Swinney; daughter April (Parnell) Hughes, son-in-law John Hughes and two grandchildren; as well as Robert Parnell and Abigail Parnell and grandchildren.

He is also survived by his mother, Mary, his brother Bobby Parnell, Bobby's son Nathan Parnell as well as brother Harold Parnell and family including several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Billy was preceded in death by his father.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 U.S 281 in Marble Falls, with arrangements made by Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home.

Billy will be laid to rest at the East End Memorial Cemetery in Stephenville, Texas.
