THE HIGHLANDER

It is Volunteer Appreciation Day in Granite Shoals, Tuesday, June 28, and a reception will be held at 5 p.m. at city hall.

“We want to honor all the people who have volunteered for boards and commissions and advisory groups and to honor the passing of former City Council Member Peggy Edwards,” said Mayor Carl Brugger. “So many people helped with the 50th Year Bash. We want to thank them all and everyone is invited to join us in honoring them.”

Light refreshments, cake and punch will be served.

The reception will precede the 6 p.m. meeting of the Granite Shoals City Council—a meeting that also likely will draw citizen attendance. On the agenda is the Deer Feeding Ordinance discussed at a June 18 forum conducted by the Wildlife Advisory Committee with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. Also, a hearing will be conducted on the revised non-conformimg structures ordinance and discussion of road improvements will continue.

Meet With Mayor!

All the volunteers and elected officials will receive Open Meetings Law training with City Attorney Brad Young at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 30.

That meeting is open to anyone interested in the training, however citizens are especially invited at 7:30 p.m. to Meet With Mayor! The event is designed to give citizens to get to know Mayor Brugger better, to get answers to questions and have the kinds of discussions that are not appropriate during a council meeting.

There, public comment is limited to three minute statements and conversation with the council is out of order.
