Dana Sid Green

Dana Sid Green, 91, passed away July 1, 2016. He was born March 22, 1925, in Marble Falls to Sidney A. Green and Ruth E. Powell Green. He graduated from Marble Falls High School in 1942; in 1949 graduated with a bachelors degree from Southwestern University in Georgetown, and in 1953 graduated with a master of theology from Yale University Divinity School in New Haven, Connecticut. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII from 1943-1945.
He became an Ordained Deacon in 1949, Ordained Elder in 1953 and served at St. Paul Church in Waterbury and West Granby, Connecticut, before returning to Texas to serve at First United Methodist Church (UMC) of Rockport (1954-1956) and St. Luke UMC in Austin (1956-1959). He was pastor of Santiago Union Church in Santiago, Chile (1959-1963); Director, Latin America Dept., National Council of the Churches (1963-1970), and pastor of First UMC of Ingleside (1972-1978).
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Leonora Green of Corpus Christi; sons, Dana Russell Green (Kathy Ann Murray) of Gresham, Oregon; Worth Sid Green (Sherri) of Llano; daughter, Katherine Ruth Green-Ellison of Corpus Christi; grandchildren, Thad Green (Ana), Nicole McGillagreen (Sean), Corey Green, and great-grandchildren, Kai Green, Eli Green and Calla Lily McGillagreen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, the Rev. Powell Green, the Rev. Hilka Green, Worth Green (lost in WWII) and Joy Cecil “J.C. Green, a lay minister of First UMC Marble Falls, and his sister, Anna Eulalia Green Crawford. Among his nine nieces and nephews are John Crawford of Nacogdoches and Glynis Crawford Smith of Granite Shoals, both formerly of Marble Falls.
In his youth, Dana was a printer's devil for the Marble Falls Messenger and he served on the staff of Lyndon B. Johnson in the early years of LBJ's political career. Avid genealogists, Dana and Leonora have preserved extensive family histories, including those of the Phillips and Powell clans that settled in this Central Texas area and of his father's Green (Groen) family of Friesland, Netherlands.
A memorial service will be held at a later date under the direction of Charlie Marshall Funeral Home, Corpus Christi.
