Mildrena Eva Shields Bracksieck took her last breath on earth Friday, June 10, 2016 in Lakeway, Texas. She follows her beloved husband, Charles Edward Bracksieck who passed on Feb. 20, 1999. Mildrena was affectionately known as “Drena” by so many.
Drena was born on Sept. 30, 1927 to Milton Allen and Vera Rowena Fountain Shields in Elsa, Texas. Drena was the middle of three children, Milton Allen Shields, Jr.; older brother and Loretta Shield Ewart, younger sister both deceased.
Throughout her youth, Drena was actively involved with her church, her school, and her community.
She was the President of the Edcouch-Elso Girl Reserves , Treasurer of the Rio Grande Valley wide Girl Reserves; Treasurer of her senior class, managing editor of the school paper; member of the Choral Club; Treasurer of the Recreation Club; and President of the Methodist Youth Fellowship.
As an adult Drena continued to dedicate her time and energy to her family, church, and community.
Her beautiful alto voice provided enjoyment for years in all of the Methodist churches she was member, the last church being the First United Methodist Church of Marble Falls, Texas.
At FUMC Marble Falls she was active in the Rebecca Circle and the choir. She also devoted many hours ensuring members and new members had food to welcome and comfort them.
Drena continued a long membership with Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
She was a long time resident of Meadowlakes, where you could see her walking almost daily on the pecan lined streets.
Drena was a genuine lady who graciously welcomed all into her home and life.
She saw good in everyone. Her family and friends would describe her as kind, generous, compassionate, witty, and loving. Her smile will be remembered by all.
Drena was a loved and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Laura, Darrel, David, and James and her step children; Valerie and Neal. She has 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren combined who she adored and cherished.
Drena will be missed by many and was welcomed into heaven by a host of family and friends with open arms.
Memorial services will be on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Marble Falls, Texas with Jon Weems officiating.
