An annual family trip to Guanajuato, Mexico, has turned to tragedy for a Marble Falls family.
Albert Monzon Jr., a 14-year-old about to enter ninth grade at Marble Falls High School, died in an auto accident that sent three other family members to the hospital, including his father, Alberto. His sister, Lizette, and his mother, Melissa, are reportedly still hospitalized in critical condition in Monterrey, Mexico.
The Marble Falls Independent School District (MFISD) was quick to respond Monday, July 25.
“Our MFISD student body lost one of its Mustangs when Albert Monzon Jr. passed away due to an automobile accident this weekend. Other members of the Monzon family were also injured in the accident, and are currently receiving critical care in a hospital out of the country,” said a message from Roger Barr and Manny Lunoff, principals of Marble Middle School and High School respectively.
“Since Albert also had siblings at other Marble Falls ISD campuses, we realize the news of his death, as well as concern for his family members, may be far reaching through our community of students, staff, and faculty,” they said.

Marble Falls High School and Marble Falls Middle School will have grief counselors available on campuses for any student having difficulty with the emotional pain of this traumatic event.
“Knowing that it takes community support to help our Mustang family in times of need, friends of the family have set up a Go Fund Me page for the Monzon family to assist with funeral and hospital costs, transportation, and any other expenses they may encounter as a result of these unexpected turn of events. Please know that we are here to help and support our community, so please let us know how we can help.”
“Alberto and their other three young children are stuck without a vehicle in the town where the accident occurred, while Melissa and Lizette are in the hospital hours away,” said the online appeal for support. The link to the page is www.gofundme.com/2g3osws.
