William “Bill” Chapline

1929 ~ 2016

William “Bill” Chapline went to be with Jesus on Thursday, the 7th of July, 2016.

Bill was born on the 20th of January, 1989, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Ed S. Chapline Sr. and Johnnie Mae Dickson Chapline.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Ed S. Chapline Jr.; as well as the mother of his children, Marian Grace Chapline Connell.

He is survived by his wife, Lynne Crowe Chapline of Marble Falls; and his four children, Lolly Chapline Lewis, William L. Chapline Jr. (Diane), Bryan K. Chapline (Beth), Lisa Chapline Brock (John), and grandchildren Jenny Shaw (Rusty), Amy Cohen (Bill), Lindsay Manes (Chad), Charlie Chapline, Amanda Chapline, Michelle Chapline, and Kyle Chapline; great-granddaughters, Shannon, Melanie and Claire Cohen; and great-grandson, Brandon Shaw.

Bill graduated from the University of Houston in 1953. He was an avid hunter, golfer, pilot, world traveler and lover of people. He spent his entire life chasing rainbows and captured many. Bill began his career as a homebuilder in Sharpstown in the '50s and later developed BraeBurn Valley, BraeBurn Valley West and Wilderness Trails in Friendswood. Bill owned several other companies throughout his career, including a water district management company and an environmental lab.

Bill and Lynne travelled the world, visiting more than 50 countries over the years. Bill was a lifelong member of BraeBurn Country Club, served on the Board of Directors and started the Good Guys Golf Tournament. He served two terms as President of the Houston Golf Association in 1972 and 1973. Bill was also a lifetime supporter of the Houston Rodeo.

After Bill retired at age 70, he and his beloved “Lynnski” left Houston for their adventure in the country. In 2006 they began another adventure on Lake Marble Falls, which became a wonderful retreat that was enjoyed by Bill's family, extended family and friends, and where very special memories were made.

It is impossible to capture the essence of Bill in these few paragraphs. Let it be said that he was “one of a kind,” and left the world a better place because he was in it. We thank God for the life of Bill.

Grandy, we miss you already.

“I am not here. Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle Autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there. I did not die. I am with Jesus.”

The memorial service was held at half-past three o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 14th of July, 2016, at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons Funeral Home, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
