Burnet won the battle of Burnet County Friday night with a 33-12 victory over rival Marble Falls at Bulldog Field.

Burnet senior quarterback Koby Edwards threw for three touchdowns, all in the first half, and Burnet played field position football to take command in the game.

Burnet (2-0) scored all four of its touchdowns on short drives, two set up by Mustang fumbles.

Burnet capitalized on field position and made some breaks. The Bulldogs went up 9-0 midway through the first quarter when Edwards fired a pass to the end zone on third and seven from the 22. Senior Steven Gallardo snared the deflected football in the end zone to complete a 5-play 43-yard drive.

Marble Falls (1-1) had three players surrounding Gallardo on the play, but senior Weston Schultz tipped the ball and Gallardo swallowed up the pass.

Burnet pushed the lead to 16-0 when Edwards hit a streaking Drew Kiser for 28 and a touchdown of the first play after a fumble by the Mustangs.

Edwards, who was 11 of 21 passing for 136 yards, later hit Kiser on the same route when he caught Marble Falls with a linebacker in coverage on the deep route. That score right before halftime finished off a three-play, t68-yard drive and gave Burnet a 23-9 lead with 1:02 left before half.

Marble Falls had 136 yards in penalties.

Marble Falls sophomore quarterback Andrew Stripling finished completing 18 of  39 passes for 217 yards and had a 47-yard scoring strike to Keegan Deering.

Marble Falls outgained Burnet, 341-255, in total yards.
