Brock Linder will start Friday's game against Alamo Heights. The sophomore was brought up from the JV last week to help solidify the team's receiving crew. Marble Falls has been hard hit by injuries through the first three games of the season.

Alamo Heights comes to Marble Falls Friday night ranked No. 1 in the San Antonio Express’ Class 5A-under poll.

It’s for good reason the Mules are unbeaten in three non-district outings and averaging 34 points a game.

“They are a good, very good football team,’’ Marble Falls coach Matt Green said. “They can throw it or run it. They can do both and they are good at it. They like to throw it first.’’

The Mules start nine seniors on each side of the ball and all but one of the skill position players are seniors.

The District 26-5A opener between Marble Falls and Alamo Heights kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Mustang Stadium.

“This is my first time to ever go play at Marble Falls and Mustang Stadium,’’ Alamo Heights coach Mike Norment said. “It’s nice to be playing some teams that you don’t play very often. This is a solid district, there aren’t any give me games.’’

The Mules played a lot of underclassmen last year and were squeezed out of the playoffs in a tiebreaker. The Mules were 6-4 overall last year and 5-3 in district. Lockhart, San Marcos, Kerrville Tivy and Boerne Champion represented District 27-5A in the playoffs last season.

“We used that in the off-season workouts,’’ Norment said. “But that was last year, this is a whole new team is the way we look at it.’’
