Ambrie Lizcano races to first place at Marble Falls meet.

Freshman Ambrie Lizcano continued her run toward breaking the Mustangs school record Saturday with a blazing time to win the Marble Falls Invitational.

Lizcano ran a season-best 19:34 edging out Emily Forster of Leander Rouse in the 5K race on the Marble Falls cross country course.

Lizcano said she fell half way through the race when the runners were clogged up during the loop portion of the race.

“I just got right back up,’’ Lizcano said. “The hard part is the finish running uphill in the gravel.

Lizcano is one of four freshmen on the Lady Mustangs team. Three of them ran on Saturday morning in near perfect conditions.

The Lady Mustangs varsity team scored 28 points and tied Rouse. The Mustangs won on a tiebreaker. The difference was sophomore Gisela Mata took 10th overall beating Rouse’s sixth runner by six spots.
