Sue S. Stubbs, age 65, passed away at her home in Horseshoe Bay, Texas on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016 surrounded by her family and close friends.
Sue left the life she cherished after a 4 1/2 year battle with pancreatic cancer that she so fiercely and courageously fought.
She was born a twin on March 4, 1951 in Plymouth, Indiana to William (Bill) and Mary Belle (Haab)Shemberger.
After graduating from high school, Sue attended Indiana University and earned her Business degree in 1973.
An interviewer on a “career day” remarked to her that she was a great fit for a career in sales and just like everything she pursued, Sue launched full steam into her sales career.
She was the first female rep hired at Alcoa, worked for Yellow Pages selling advertising, and enjoyed over 20 years at Thomson Reuters where she grew from entry level sales to become Vice President of Sales for the Legal Division.
And for nearly every year there, Sue earned membership in the “President’s Club” which only
recognized the top sales performers each year.
It was Sue’s drive, her “can do” personality and her love of a turn on the dance floor that attracted Jerry Stubbs, “the love of her life”, to her.
They married in a small ceremony in Houston on May 4, 1979.
Over their 37 year marriage, Sue and Jerry had homes in Houston, Dallas, Minneapolis and most recently in Horseshoe Bay, Texas where they retired in 2012.
Sue absolutely loved golf and was an active player and an avid fan of the sport.
She loved meeting new friends, and was a gourmet cook who loved to throw
a party.
She was the organizer, entertainer and hostess for many wonderful events.
Sue’s passion for life was evident in how hard she fought to survive pancreatic cancer.
She was an inspiration to everyone who knew her and witnessed her ability to stay
positive in the face of such a difficult and painful disease.
She dedicated herself to helping find a cure and became the leading fundraiser for the 2015 and 2016 Austin Purple Stride events to benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
Her team of “Sue’s Superheroes” was the largest group at each of the 5k events.
Sue is survived by her loving husband Jerry, and her close-knit Shemberger family members including her twin brother Ned William and his wife Mary O’Connell (Plymouth, Indiana),
brother Steve Carl (Florida), nephew Matt Philip married to Molly Weyandt with child William Michael (Houston), and nephew William Lee (Wyoming).
Sue will be remembered as a bright and shining light in all the communities where she lived.
She was a wonderful, loving and loyal friend to so many people.
Jerry would like to thank everyone who has sent cards, emails, flowers, meals and loving wishes during her illness.
He would also like to express his gratitude to the many wonderful medical professionals
and caregivers who helped Sue throughout her fight.
Services for Sue will be under the direction of Clements-Wilcox of Marble Falls, Texas.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016 from 10 a.m.-noon.
Interment will be in Madisonville, Texas.
A private Celebration of Life is being planned by the family for a later date.
