Marble Falls’ Ambrie Lizcano ran a 19:39.8 time to take eighth overall and lead the Lady Mustangs to a fourth-place team finish Saturday at the Region IV-5A cross country championships at A&M-Corpus Christi.

The team advances to the state meet in two weeks at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.

The seven girls that ran Saturday were Lizcano, Jaden Johnson, Kim Boni, Daijah Torns, Ashley Rios, Sydney Gibson and Berkley Powell.

The District 26-5A champion Lady Mustangs scored 149 points and finished behind district rivals Boerne Champion and Dripping Springs as well as Corpus Christi Tuloso-Midway.

“It wasn’t pretty, but we got out or regional and advance,’’ Marble Falls coach Anthony Torns said.

Freshman Jaden Johnson finished 19th at 20:27.7 and senior Kim Boni finished 30th at the regional meet with a time of 2:05.72.

Daijah Torns was 39th at 21:05.8 and Ashley Rios was 53rd at 21:36.8 to round out the scoring finishes for Marble Falls.

Also running were Sydney Gibson who took 63rd at 21:51.2 and Berkley Powell was 73rd at 22:05.2.

The Lady Mustangs are the first team to make it to state in cross country since the 2002 team. This year’s team ran a 5K race.

The top overall finisher was Boerne Champion’s Ana Norman in 19:32. She edged teammate Kelsie Vicnair, who also had a 19:32 time.

Dripping Springs’ top finisher was Sydney Cole in fourth at 19:35.

Third place Corpus Christi Tuloso-Midway score 123 points led by ninth place finisher Madison Bent.
