Lady Stangs demolish Lockhart, 55-26

Marble Falls turned to Mya McMillian Tuesday night to make a difference in he team’s 55-26 victory over Lockhart at Max Copeland Gymnasium.

McMillian scored 17 of her game-high 19 points in the first half and was unstoppable in the second quarter when she scored 10 points, mostly on short inside bank shots off the glass.

McMillian also had six rebounds and a blocked shot. She sat most of the second half. She took just one shot in the second half as the Lady Mustangs dominated from start to finish against the Lady Lions.

Marble Falls (17-8, 5-1) is tied for the District 26-5A lead with Kerrville Tivy. Tivy closes out the first half of district at Lockhart while the Lady Stangs are on the road at rival Dripping Springs on Friday.

Tivy, ranked No. 13 in the state, beat Marble Falls by four points on Jan. 3 for the Lady Mustangs lone district loss. Tivy’s lone district loss is to Dripping Springs.

Against Lockhart the Mustangs heated up four minutes into the game with a pair shots by Molly Myrick on a fast break layup and a 3-point shot to take command. The Lady Mustangs led 11-4 after the two Myrick shots. McMillian also had back-to-back shots with the second one off an assist by Myrick to take a 16-4 lead with 1:41 left in the first quarter.

The Lady Mustangs were seven of 12 shooting in the first quarter while Lockhart managed to make three shots in 11 attempts against the Lady Mustangs tough defense.
Marble Falls shut out Lockhart from the floor in the second quarter, limiting Lockhart to just one made free throw.

Marble Falls outscored Lockhart 19-1 in the second quarter to lead 35-10 at the break.
