Mustangs fade in second half against Alamo Heights

Alamo Heights made nine 3-pointers and post player Evan Carcanagues had a pair of dunk shots to lift the Mules to a 66-40 victory over the Marble Falls Mustangs Tuesday at Max Copeland Gymnasium.

Marble Falls was in striking distance at halftime after Andrew Stripling hit an 18-footer at the second quarter buzzer in the District 26-5A contest.

Marble Falls trailed, 33-22 coming out of the locker room, but the San Antonio school took control with Brandon Johnson scoring six points in a 17-6 third quarter run.

The lead ballooned to 45-24 after Johnson hit a deep jumper from the left corner.

Marble Falls trailed, 52-26, just a minute into the fourth quarter after and inside shot from Andrew Reichert. Marble Falls substituted for all five players on the court at the time and played the rest of the game with backups.

Marble Falls dips to 0-6 in district and 9-15 overall while Alamo Heights evened its district record at 3-3 and improved to 14-10 overall.

Marble Falls top scorer was Ethan O’Riley with 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers off the top of the key on back-to-back possessions in the fourth quarter.

Seven Mustangs scored in the game while Alamo Heights put four players in double figures including top scorer Will Schmacker with 16 points. Schmacker made four 3-pointers.
