Representatives for the Highland Lakes, and Burnet County in particular, expressed their support for the inauguration of President Donald J. Trump on Friday.

Trump, who won the November general election, was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States, while Mike Pence was sworn in as his vice president in a ceremony on the west front of the White House.

“This afternoon, our nation witnessed the most miraculous part of our system of government – the peaceful transfer of power,” said U.S. Rep. Roger Williams, R-Austin, a member of the House Financial Services Committee, serves as Vice Chair on the Subcommittee on Monetary Policy and Trade.

“Despite opposition, anger and divisiveness, we have, once again, proven that this institution, our way of life, is more powerful than our petty differences. I look forward to working with President Trump as we work to rebuild our military and infrastructure, rein in an out-of-control federal bureaucracy and restore economic opportunity for all.”

New Texas state Sen. Dr. Dawn Buckingham called Trump's presidency “an opportunity for Texas to step up and lead in health care reform.

“I'm very excited to be on the Health and Human Services committee. We're going to lead in patient centered health care delivery and it's an incredible opportunity,” she said.

Buckingham also said she believes that “President Trump will be an incredible ally in securing our border and he'll be able to get rid of the lures such as sancturary cities and other things that bring people here and we'll get our border under control."
