Charles Carter Woodruff
July 5, 1928 ~ January 31, 2017
Charles Carter Woodruff passed on to his heavenly home on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
He was an excellent father, loving husband and good friend to his wife Wilma who preceded him to her heavenly home on July 21, 2014.
He was born on July 5, 1928 in Cushing, Oklahoma, to Carter and Blanche Woodruff.
The family moved many times as Carter worked in the oil business.
After graduating from high school in New London, Charles attended the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1950 with a B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering.
Charles worked for Mobil Oil, then known as Magnolia Petroleum, throughout his entire career.
He met Wilma Koger who worked as a draftsman for Mobil and they married on April 17, 1954 beginning a long and loving life together.
His job with Mobil took them to a wide range of locations, including stops in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, California and Alaska.
After seven years in Anchorage, they returned to Texas for three years before relocating to Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
From there Mobil took them to Dallas and back to Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Charles’ final stop in his career.
Charles and Wilma purchased a lot and planned their retirement to Horseshoe Bay in late 1979, with Wilma personally designing and overseeing construction of their retirement home.
They moved to Horseshoe Bay permanently in 1986, and began enjoying the wonderful fellowship at the Church at Horseshoe Bay and the delightful friends at the Club.
Charles held positions throughout his retirement such as President of the Horseshoe Bay Property Owners Association and Treasurer at the Church at Horseshoe Bay.
Wilma and Charles were regular fixtures at the Church as greeters and collections takers for many years.
He was particularly proud of his commendation from the Church for his many years of service.
Charles was a passionate golfer, recording two holes-in-one and shooting his age on his 72nd birthday, a feat he was particularly proud of.
Off the course, he enjoyed making golf clubs, his Wednesday Men’s Bible Study and spending time with Wilma.
Charles is survived by his son; Ty Woodruff and wife Shannon; son Rod Woodruff and wife Kirsten; grandson Jamie and his brother Don Woodruff and wife Linda.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Capital of Texas Chapter, 3520 Executive Center Drive, Suite 140, Austin or Hill Country Memorial Hospice, 808 Reuben Street, Fredericksburg.
The family thanks the compassionate staff at the Hospice, as well as Pam Basom, Valerie Chaffee and Rachel Halley for the wonderful care provided to Charles and Wilma over the past several years.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Church at Horseshoe Bay.
