Dortha Mae Graham Kanewske
April 22, 1921 ~ February 4, 2017
Dortha (Dot) Kanewske entered this world on April 22, 1921 in rural northeast Texas, just outside of Commerce.
She attended high schools in Dallas and Commerce, ultimately graduating from Commerce High.
Finishing high school was not enough, Dortha pursued a college education and graduated from East Texas State Teachers College in 1941.
Upon graduation, she briefly taught first, second and third grades at a rural school in Quinlan.
Dortha moved to Galveston in 1942 where she met her husband and lifelong companion Joe.
Dortha and Joe were married in Galveston at St. Patrick’s on Sep. 2, 1943 while Joe was serving in the U. S. Army Air Corps.
Following the war, Dortha left the workplace and devoted herself to raising and caring for her family.
Dortha’s primary focus for her family was to instill in them the value of a strong education which she knew would serve them for their entire lives.
Dortha and Joe moved to Dickinson in 1970 and after four years, relocated to Richardson.
They remained in Richardson for 28 years.
Following Joe’s retirement, they moved to Marble Falls in 2002 where they lived out their remaining lives.
Dortha slipped away easily at her home at Arbor House on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 4.
May she rest in peace.
