Lady Stangs overcome athletic Houston

Marble Falls girls won’t back down from anybody. They showed in
Friday night in taking a 57-47 area round Class 5A, Region IV victory over San Antonio Houston at Cedar Creek High School.

Marble Falls’ Aileen Neri came off the bench to ignite the Lady Stangs in the physical affair. The referees spent most of the night deciding to call charging or fouls on defenders in the nip on tuck battle.

Marble Falls seized the upper hand early but was able hold off the 19-13 San Antonio squad because of the Hurricanes inability to shoot. The Hurricanes were terrible fron the floor and free throw line.

But the San Antonio school was persistent throwing up shots.

The score was just 8-5 Marble Falls after the first quarter. Marble Falls built a 24-16 lead at the halftime.

Houston can out strong funneling the ball inside the second half, but Marble Falls held off the Hurricanes and captured their second playoff win.

The Lady Mustangs (25-10) will play Port Lavaca Calhoun in the regional quarterfinals at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Gonzales High School.
