William Brett Brackett, 50, passed away Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, in McKinney, Texas, after an eight-year struggle with ALS.
He was the son of William A. Brackett and Dolores Brackett Whitman. He graduated from Midland High School in 1984. He attended Southwest Texas State University and subsequently received his engineering degree at Texas A&I University, now Texas A&M, in Kingsville, Texas.
Brett worked at Texas Instruments for more than 19 years. With a fierce will to live, Brett partnered with friend Pete Quortrup to form the ALS Living Fund to help provide respiratory assistance to others suffering from the disease. It is estimated that respiratory support extended his life by five yers.
Brett is survived by his wife, Sandra Ybarra, of McKinney; daughter, Melanie Ybarra, of McKinney; and son, Derrick Ybarra, of McKinney; his mother, Dolores Brackett Whitman; sister, Becky Brackett; sister, Pam Kinsella and husband Steve Kinsella of Kingsland, Texas; nephews and nieces, Toby Mendenhall, Sasha Wiggins and husband Shiloh Wiggins, Nicholas Sankowsky and wife Claire Sankowsky, and Thomas Kohlmeyer and wife Lynn Kohlmeyer.
A memorial service will be held for Brett on March 10 at the Custer Road United Methodist Church in Plano, Texas.
