Whether you love to walk your dog or run the bases, you can plan to enjoy it in the name of helping dogs on March 4 while enjoying a long list of fun events in Marble Falls.

The Highland Lakes Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is sponsoring the 5th Annual Walk-a-Dog-a-Thon, a Pet Fest with live music performances and the co-ed Dingers for Dogs softball tournament, all going on from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in Johnson Park, 230 Avenue J, in Marble Falls.

Walkers and canine friends on a leash can begin any time and use the city's trails to cover just about any amount of the 5K route.

“There are numerous shortcuts for those who are not up to the full 2.5 miles,” explained organizer Shannon Heep. “The day is about family fun benefitting our local no-kill sanctuary dedicated to providing a home for dogs in need.”

Anyone who did adopt a dog there is invited to bring that pup along for a Highland Lakes SPCA Reunion Photo at 10:40 a.m. near the registration pavilion in Johnson Park.

People are urged but not required to register in advance for the dog walk and the softball game, just to keep the crowds moving. They can do it online at www. wearemarblefalls.com.

Dog walk registration $20 for adults and $15 children.

Dog walk registration begins at 9:30 a.m. in the park and, while the walk officially begins at 11 a.m. but participants can join in any time during the event.

Each paid registration comes with a goody bag that includes an event bandanna for a dog. Not everyone in a group needs to register. The goal is for families to enjoy the day and give what they can afford to benefit Highland Lakes SPCA.

The Dingers for Dogs registration fee, $175, includes 12 event bandanas. If players are registering separately, the fee is $20 per person and includes one event bandanna.
