Brugger and Bromley take mayors races

 

 

With the Saturday, May 6, General Election, the cities of Granite Shoals and Burnet have new mayors.

Carl Brugger was re-elected mayor of Granite Shoals by 228 votes (61.68 percent) of 368 votes cast to Mike Steenbergen’s 141 votes (38.32 percent). Of those numbers, Brugger received 98 early votes and Steenbergen 54 votes.

In a closer race, Crista Goble Bromley will be mayor of Burnet. She received 268 votes (55.37 percent) of 484 votes cast to Philip Thurman’s 216 votes (44.63 percent).

Three council members were unopposed: Anita Hisey in Place 1 (266 votes), Jim Davant in Place 3 (264 votes), and Todd Holland in Place 5 (268 votes).

Burnet

In the Burnet City Council race, 1,043 votes were cast. The top three candidates, to become council members, were Tres Clinton with 323 votes (30.97 percent); Paul farmer, 314 votes (30.11 percent), and Cindia Talamantez, 207 votes (19.85 percent).

Ashley Barnett received 115 votes (11.03 percent) and Zack Worrell, 84 votes (8.05 percent)

In the race for the unexpired term on the council, Milton (Mickey) Phair came out ahead with 209 votes (47.83 percent). Zachary DeLeon received 128 votes (29.29 percent) and Paul Shell, 100 votes (22.88 percent).

In early voting, the results where Clinton, 195 votes (30.97 percent); Farmer, 193 (30.93 percent); Talamantez, 115 (18.43 percent); Barnett, 73 (11.7 percent); Phair, 129 (48.68 percent); DeLeon, 76 (28.68 percent), and Shell, 60, 22.64 percent)

Meadowlakes

Meadowlakes has three new council members, although David Baker was unopposed for Place 2, receiving 191 votes.

Edwin O’Hayre, with 145 votes (58.23 percent) came out ahead of Mel Hazlewood, 104 votes (41.77 votes) for Place 4.

Bobby Brown won Place 5 with 150 votes (61.98 percent) over Charles Henley, 92 votes (38.02 percent).

Early voting totals were O’Hayre, 97 votes (56.73 percent); Hazlewood, 74 percent (43.27 percent); Brown, 105 (63.25 percent); Henley, 61 votes (36.75 percent).

Bertram

With only 167 voters among three candidates for council spots in Bertram, voting was close. Mike Dickinson received the top number, 57 votes (34.13); Pat Turner, 33 votes (19.76 percent), and Jean Worrell, 30 votes (17.96 percent). Allen Rodgers received 26 votes (15.57 percent) and Jane Scheidler, 21 votes (12.57 percent).

Early voting totals were Dickinson, 12 votes (34.29 percent); Turner, 8 (22.86; Worrell (8 votes (22.86 percent); Rodgers, 1 vote (2.86 percent), and Scheidler 6 votes (17.14 percent).

Sales Tax Propositions

Voter approval for continuing a sales tax for street maintenance was an almost identical 82 percent in Bertram (58 votes for 82.66 percent to 12 votes, or 17.14 percent) and in Cottonwood Shores (19 votes, or 82.61 percent, in favor and 4 votes (17.39 percent against).

Burnet CISD

Mark Kincaid drew the most out of a total 764 votes in the race for Place 7 on the Burnet Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees. His 293 votes represented 38.35 percent. He was trailed by Ross Behrens, 253 votes (33.12 percent) and Kerry Carroll, 218 vote4s (28.53 percent.

Suzanne Brown was unopposed for Place 3 on the board, endorsed by 577 voters.

In early voting, the numbers were: Kincaid, 146 votes (38.02 percent); Behrens, 133 votes (34.64 percent), and Carroll 105 votes (27.34 percent).
