James (Jim) Keith Reeves, 67, of Buchanan Dam passed peacefully into the presence of Jesus at his home on Friday, May 19, after a long battle with cancer.
He was the son of James Franklin Reeves and Billie Evelyn Thompson Reeves Marsh, born in Lufkin, Texas on January 16, 1950.
The oldest of seven boys, Jim quickly learned responsibility.
He spent a life-time quietly helping others, no matter what the need.
Born with several health issues that he would battle throughout his life, he also learned at an early age how to walk through adversity with grace and perseverance.
Jim graduated from A&M University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in what he liked to call “mow and grow”.
After a short time in Arkansas, he was Director of Community Services in Edinburg, until 1980, where he met the love of his life, Sara Florence. Jim then worked for the City of Conroe as Director of Parks and Recreation until 1995 when he left city government to be self-employed.
His love of Texas native plants led him to start his own landscaping and design business in the Hill Country, which was cut short due to health issues.
He obtained his real estate license in 2000 and worked for Thelma Miller Real Estate and Century 21 in Kingsland.
He worked in that field until his health forced him into early retirement.
His pride for his Texas heritage ran as deep as his East Texas roots, and Jim took great delight in sharing his passion for historic woodworking at reenactment events across the Hill Country.
He was actively involved with Ft. Croghan in Burnet and Ft. McKavett in Ft. McKavett, Texas.
Jim was known as a man of godly character and integrity. His is greatly missed by all who loved and knew him.
He is proceeded in death by his parents; his brothers Richard Reeves and Phillip Gordon Reeves.
He is survived by his wife, Sara; his daughters Florence Reeves, JoLynn (Charles) Elkins, Kate Reeves, and son Phillip (Chelsea) Reeves; grandchildren Nick Savage, James Weston and Realin Reeves, and Isak, Malkom, and Eliana Elkins; brothers Kyle (Lynette) Reeves of Tomball, Donald (June) Reeves of New Caney, Gregor (Debbie) Reeves of Porter, Dean (Lisa) Reeves of Richardson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Kingsland on Thursday, May 25 at 2 p.m., officiated by Pastor Charles Stahl, to be followed by a memorial service and interment of his ashes at the Simpson Family Cemetery in Pollock, Texas at a later date.
