Oran Roscoe “Buddy” Crawford passed away peacefully the morning of May 19, 2017. Bud was born on September 6, 1944 in Houston, Texas to Mable Elizabeth Lewis and Roscoe Clarence Crawford of Smithwick, Texas. His maternal grandparents were Annie Evans and Andrew Jackson Crawford and his paternal grandparents were Jasper Hogan Lewis and Katherine Basheba Gilcrease.
Buddy had many hobbies: traveling to Terlingua, and tinkering with computers. As a young man he had a fondness for Mopars and old highway patrol cars, and he especially loved to barbeque brisket and Elgin sausage. But what was most dear to his heart was his family, and he was very close to his mother in particular. When his parents were aging and in their final days, Bud and his last wife “Millie” Mildred Ann Burch of NC were always there, ready to help them any way they could and keep them comfortable. Buddy loved attending family reunions as well, including the annual Boultinghouse-Evans Reunions in Smithwick. In his last three years, Bud and his brother Jack spent many days driving around, sharing and remembering the good ole days. They had so many stories to tell about everywhere they went, sharing with their captive audiences. Buddy and his brother Jack also worked together as masons, laying brick and rock all over the tri-county area, including the HEB stores in Kerrville, Austin and Round Rock, as well as in the Lamplight Village and Egger’s Acres in Roundrock. They built an excellent reputation as being among the best masons in the area, following in their father’s footsteps.
He is survived by his children Barbara Gail Crawford, Robert Earl Crawford, Melissa Dawn Crawford Huber (Harvey) and Misty Dawn Crawford Olvera, all from Austin, and his wives Wanda Ann Batla, Linda Thomas, Carolyn Massey, Misty Connelly and Millie Burch. He is also survived by his grandchildren Shelby Anna Huber Garcia and Phillip Huber, great grandsons Jack Gaytan Garcia and Grayson James Huber and several nieces & nephews.
He was preceeded in death by his seven siblings Jack Dale, Patsy Ann, Wilma Joy, Barbara Kate, baby Crawford, and Lonnie Earl Crawford, as well as his parents.
The Memorial Service for Oran Roscoe Crawford will be held Saturday, June 3rd at 11am at Smithwick Cemetery in Smithwick, Texas on Hwy 1431 just east of Marble Falls. The Graveside Service will be followed by BBQ meal at Bud’s house.
