Although she is still listed in critical condition, there has been good news regarding the condition of a

Fredericksburg youth pastor's wife critically injured in a Friday, June 9, accident in Burnet County on US 281.

Jenny Barton Loza, the wife of First Baptist Church of Fredericksburg youth pastor Austin Loza, was removed from a monitor and swelling has started to go down in her skull following surgery she underwent Monday, June 12, at St. David's Round Rock Medical Center, according to an update online.

Jenny Loza has been kept in a medically induced coma due to the severity of her injuries, said Tommy Russell, pastor at FBC Fredericksburg. If swelling continues to go down and her body is able to self-regulate her blood pressure, they will bring her out of the coma, Russell said.

The accident which injured Jenny Loza happened at about 12:20 p.m. Friday on US 281, a few miles south of Lampasas in Burnet County and involved a church van driven by Jenny Loza and a pickup truck which crossed lanes and hit the van.

“While returning from youth camp, one of our vehicles carrying six students and two adults was involved in an accident and there were injuries,” Russell said. “A truck crossed over into oncoming traffic. Our first bus, carrying 19 students and driven by Austin Loza, husband of Jenny, was able to swerve and miss the truck.

“The second van, driven by Jenny, was unable to and the truck hit her vehicle head-on. All of the students in the van driven by Jenny were taken to different hospitals, but since then have been released.”

Russell said Jenny Loza suffered multiple broken bones and massive head trauma. After being extracted from the vehicle, she was airlifted to Round Rock and was placed in the intensive care unit so medical professionals could monitor her head injury.

“Jenny is currently in surgery as of today, Monday, June 12, and will be there for a couple of hours,” Russell said. “The doctors will run more scans as well. We won't know anything else until she comes out of surgery.

“Everyone is coping with this as well as they can, we need lots of prayers for this family. Give God the praise for the miracle he has given us so far. Jenny is a fighter and God made her that way.”

A GoFundMe page has been created for Jenny Loza to help the family pay for medical bills and $20,999 had already been raised as of Tuesday afternoon (out of a goal of $25,000). To learn more, go to www.gofundme.com/3wyyof4.

Jenny Loza is the daughter of Kerr County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Clay Barton. No charges have yet been filed in connection with the accident. The driver of the other vehicle was also critically injured.
