The 15th Annual Soapbox Derby Races have plenty of daytime action, but the cool of the evenings offer even more, including a street dance this year to the tunes of Tom Ben Lindley.

The West Texas singer/songwriter is coming to Marble Falls compliments of Poodies Hilltop Roadhouse in Spicewood.

He may have started life with a classical violin, but once he picked up a guitar, Lindley came up through the “Outlaw Country” ranks to powerhouse wallop of Southern–fried Del Rio swingin' singin' blues. He will bring the sound to to this lakeside city beginning at 9:30 p.m. Saturday

Most of the action of the derby takes place right at the top of the Third Street hill downtown, but vendors and racers will be found along Main Street on either side of the downhill racetrack.

For the uninitiated, the adult soapbox racers are never motorized, but many are carefully engineered, sometimes taking the whole year of mechanical work. Almost every one has a signature design to amuse the fans or intimidate the competition.

The Show & Shine, beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, is a chance to check out the cars and visit with the builders and drivers before the first checkered flag waves at 7 p.m.

Racers are back on the track beginning at noon Saturday and racing under the banks of lights on Third Street right up to the time Long begins his performance in front of Rae's Bar & Grill, formerly R-Bar, at 904 Third Street.

Final races begin at, noon Sunday, with hopes of a finish at 4 p.m. for awards presentations.
