Steven Alan Williams, 73, passed away on June 17, 2017, at his home in Georgetown. He was born November 6, 1943, to Wiley Alan Stoner and Jo Frances Stoner. His father, a naval aviator, was killed in combat when Steven was less than a year old.
He and his mother returned to Dallas, where in time she married Delbert Williams. Delbert, Steven’s “second father,” adopted Steven giving him his surname, Williams.
Steven graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1962 and then went on to attend Texas Wesleyan College graduating in 1966, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management. While in college, Steven was active in many facets of college life including being president of his fraternity, assistant editor of the yearbook, activities photographer for three years for both the college’s newspaper and yearbook and a member of Golden Shears.
Steven had a solid business background. He held key positions with Shell Oil Company and Occidental Petroleum. His assignments were at the head office/holding company level in corporate finance.
In 1977, he entered the world of executive recruiting. Early in his search career, Steven was with Ray & Berndtson. Before that time, he was with Korn/Ferry International, the world’s largest executive search firm.
In 1989 he established his own search firm, Steven A. Williams & Associates, initially with a health care oriented practice. Clients ranged from billion-dollar multinational pharmaceutical corporations to recently formed venture capital backed start-ups. Subsequent to that time, his practice diversified well beyond the health care industry.
Steven was always active in community affairs, and as early as 1972, he served as president of his home owners’ association in Houston. After he and his wife Sylvia moved to the Hill Country in 1999, his civic activities included Director, Seton Highland Lakes Hospital; Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Hill Country Economic Development Council serving Burnet and Llano Counties; and founding president of Bertram’s Economic Development Corporation.
From 1999 until 2015, Steven and his wife, Sylvia, resided at their farm,Stonebridge, which was located about 40 miles northwest of Austin on the edge of the Texas Hill Country.
During his life, Steven enjoyed golf, playing the guitar, tennis, sailing, photography and fly-fishing.
He is survived by his loving, thoughtful, beautiful wife Sylvia. Steven would often introduce her as “his bride.” He took great pride in her accomplishments including her garden, greenhouse, potting shed and the home where they lived and created together, Stonebridge. “She was always the most lovely, vivacious, classiest and prettiest lady in the room.”
In addition to Sylvia, Steven is survived by one brother, Spencer Williams and his wife, Dana and their son, Ryan; beloved cousin, Melinda Stevens; extended family AnJanette Hammit, Letitia and Brad McCasland, five granddaughters and one great grandson.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Seton Children’s Care-a-Van Endowment Fund, c/o Seton Highland Lakes Hospital.

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 25, at First United Methodist Church, Burnet.
