Learn to be Firewise Saturday
Summer in Texas typically brings hot, dry weather and an increased risk for wildfire. In order to help residents learn how to reduce their wildfire risk, a Firewise presentation is being offered by the Texas A&M Forest Service on Saturday, July 15.
The presentation is sponsored by Burnet County Emergency Services District No. 6 and Marble Falls Area Volunteer Fire Department (MFAVFD). The public is invited.
The presentation is being held in the Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church (1101 Bluebonnet Drive) in Marble Falls starting at 10 a.m. and continuing until noon.
The Firewise Communities USA Program encourages local solutions for wildfire safety by involving homeowners in preparing their homes to reduce the risk of wildfire. Firewise teaches people how to adapt to living with wildfire and encourages neighbors to work together and take action now to prevent losses in the future. Resources are also provided to help with planning.
In order to help participants learn more about emergency preparedness and resources in Burnet County, there will also be brief presentations about emergency planning in Burnet County and the Burnet County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Representatives from Marble Falls Fire Rescue and Marble Falls Area VFD will also be available to answer questions.
Even smaller wildfires can cause significant losses to lives and property. Being properly prepared is an important step in helping individuals and neighborhoods stay safe.
