Red Cross on the front lines of disaster

In the wake of the historic damage caused by Hurricane Harvey and the resulting unprecedented flooding, I would like to make sure that everyone in our district has information on where to get help if they need it, or provide help if they are safe.
For those who are caught in the middle of the flooding or know someone who is, to find out more information about shelters or updates the American Red Cross has information available at: (www.redcross.org/find-help or http://rdcrss.org/shelter) or call toll free 1-866-438-4636; or 2-1-1 Texas (www.211texas.org) or dial 2-1-1 or call toll free 1-877-541-7905.
For those of us fortunate enough to be safe and dry, please consider donating to the American Red Cross, which is providing shelter, meals and comfort to those impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Please visit redcross.org, call 1-800-RED CROSS, or text HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
Please stay updated about the latest news reports in your area, especially those in Williamson and Milam Counties, where there has already been some flooding, and may be more depending on how the rivers and creeks rise. By staying informed and not taking unnecessary risks, you not only keep yourself safe, but also prevent our first responders from having to take unnecessary risks.

Finally, please keep those in danger in your thoughts and prayers, as well as their loved ones. Pray for those who are putting themselves in harm’s way to rescue others, and for those local, state, and federal officials working around the clock to keep others safe.
I have spent the last few days traveling the district to help coordinate the state response. In that time, I have witnessed a level of dedication and hard work from everyone involved that demonstrates just who we are as Texans. A special thank you to Sheriff David Green and Emergency Services Coordinator Susan Reinders of Milam County for their efforts on the front lines of this flood in our district. Please keep them in your prayers.
