Roy Wilson Rushing, 90, of Austin, Texas, passed peacefully at his home with his wife by his side on Friday, Aug. 25, 2017.
Roy was born in Pleasant Valley, Texas, on Jan. 30, 1927, to parents William and Nellie (Heffington) Rushing. Roy and his wife Martha Belle (Evans) just celebrated 68 years of marriage on May 12.
Roy was a member of the greatest generation and faithfully served during World War II in the United States Navy. He spent over 40 years as a barber in Georgetown, Texas, at Roy’s Barber Shop. When he was not cutting hair, he loved spending time at his ranch near Spicewood, Texas.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Leona Ferguson, Leon Rushing, Robert Rushing, Virginia Gilmore, Jim Rushing, and Lila Needles.
He is survived by his wife, Martha; daughter, Donna Manning and husband Phillip of Austin, Texas; son, Jim Rushing and wife Linda of Georgetown, Texas; daughter, Mary Vander Straten and husband Richard of Syracuse, Utah; and grandchildren including Lance Rushing, Maegan Rushing, Katie Vander Straten and Beck Vander Straten.
A visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 1, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ramsey Funeral Home, Georgetown, Texas. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 2, at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Pleasant Valley, Texas, at 11 a.m.
