The Rev. Jack Whyburn, 88, of Meadowlakes, Texas, went to be with the Lord Oct. 18, 2017.
Whyburn was born in Pickton, Texas, on Aug. 14, 1929. He went to Waco High School and got a B.A. degree at Baylor University in Waco. He received a Bachelor of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. He was pastor of Oenaville Baptist Church in Bell County, Third Street Baptist Church in Waco and became pastor of the Buckner Ranch Baptist Church in Burnet, Texas. He then became the assistant administrator of the Buckner Baptist Boys Ranch in Burnet for four years and was the administrator of the Buckner Baptist Boys Ranch for 37 years. After retiring from the ranch, he became the pastor of the First Baptist Church of Granite Shoals for 10 years. He was a volunteer chaplain at Seton Highland Lakes Hospital and a part-time chaplain for Seton Highland Lakes Hospice. He was pastor at the Lake Hills Baptist Church and the Sandy Mountain Fellowship Church. Jack was very proud to be a charter member of the Burnet Rotary Club for many years and was the second president for the club. He enjoyed being a part of Rotary and helping with the scholarship fund. He was also very proud of the association with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and the Minnie Mae and Jack Whyburn Endowed Scholarship that helps five students each year.
Jack is survived by his loving wife Minnie Mae Whyburn of Meadowlakes, Texas; children, Billy Whyburn of Robert Lee, Texas, and Lynn Whyburn Clarke and husband Jim of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Lance Whyburn and wife Jaime Leigh of Carrollton, Texas, Anglea Whyburn Walker and husband Zane of Flower Mound, Texas, Justin Clarke of Austin, and Tanner Clarke and wife Kendra of Dusseldorf, Germany; and great grandchild Blaine Walker of Flower Mound.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lilly Mae and Arther Whyburn; his beloved son, David Whyburn; brothers Sherman, Calvin and Glen; and sisters Nora, Doris and Shirley.
Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 20, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Clements Wilcox Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to the Minnie Mae and Jack Whyburn Endowed Scholarship fund at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
