Veterans Day again will be celebrated by Falls on the Colorado Museum (FOCM) in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Marble Falls but a month-long exhibit honoring veterans is opening at the museum at 2001 Broadway Street.

At the Veterans Day program at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, the warhorse Reckless and the Bluebonnet Chorale will return to add to the recognition of all U.S. military veterans.

Marine Staff Sgt. Reckless' proxy, Dixie, commemorates one of the greatest Marine heroes of the Korean War. The original Sgt. Reckless was a chestnut horse that carried needed ammunition to the Fifth Marines during a five-day battle.

It has been 100 years since the United States entered World War I to support the allies. The 1917 draft list of Burnet County men will be displayed and FOCM will show the newly-acquired WW I uniform of William Leon Whitman. After he returned from war, Whitman and his wife Grace continued to live in the Pleasant Valley Community east of Marble Falls.

The World War II draft list of Burnet County men also will be on display and the museum includes memorabilia from that era as well-the World War II uniform of J. H. Frasier.

Frasier was held in two Japanese prisoner of war camps from 1942 until he was rescued in August 1945. He returned home to his family on a ranch near the Double Horn Community, between the Colorado River and Spicewood.

FOCM also will honor the memory of local veterans from Korea, Viet Nam and most other recent war operations with uniform exhibits, both male and female, from those conflicts. Biographies of those armed services members have been prepared to display with them.

"The Museum board knows that the courage of our veterans affirms life and all that is honorable," said FOCM Board of Directors Chairman Darlene Oostermeyer. "We will have the Veterans Exhibit on display for the entire month of November because the sacrifices our veterans have made for our country go far and above anything we civilians can imagine."

Admission to Falls on the Colorado Museum is free Thursday-Saturday, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. More information is available by calling 830-798-2157, emailing focumseumchair@gmail. com or visiting the website www.fallsmuseum.org.
