Bergman to be memorialized Friday

A native son who returned to Marble Falls to shoulder community service for four decades will be memorialized this week.

Wallace Dale Bergman, known to family and friends as Dale Bergman, passed away at the age of 72 on Nov. 12. A service honoring his life will be held Friday, Dec. 15, at the First United Methodist Church in Marble Falls, 1101 Bluebonnet Drive,

at 3:30 p.m., with the Rev. Ellen Ely presiding.

Bergman, the 1963 salutatorian of Marble Falls High School, was born March 31, 1945 in Blanco, and lived with his family in Johnson City before moving to Marble Falls in 1957.

He married Angeline Jones of Marble Falls on Aug. 20, 1965, while he was attending the University of Texas at Austin where he earned a BS Degree in civil engineering in 1968.

He continued an engineering career in 1975 with Bergman Engineering, a surveying and engineering business operated until 2007. He is generally credited with identifying the damage that year's flood inflicted on the Pecan Valley Drive bridge. His alert led to replacement of the bridge before it could fail completely.

He was a member and president of the Texas Society of Professional Surveyors, Chapter 21, but his work was more than professional.

He was a member of the Marble Falls Independent School District (MFISD) Board of Trustees for 15 years (1988-2003), severing 10 years as president.

He was a member of the Burnet Central Appraisal District (BCAD) board and the Marble Falls/ Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce, which honored him and his wife Angie as Citizen of the Year in 2002.

Bergman was a supporter of theMarble Falls Area 4-H and Future Farmers of America (FFA), Highland Lakes Habitat for Humanity and various other community organizations.

Dale is survived by his wife Angie and his son and daughter, Cliff and Robin, all of Marble Falls; his brothers: Richard and wife Gay, Chris and wife Debra, Philip and wife Doretha; sister Dorothy Ann Curtis and husband Mike and numerous extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Dale Bergman Memorial Scholarship directly to the family or through the Marble Falls Education Foundation (REF: Dale Bergman), care of Pam Parkman/Marble Falls Education Foundation, 1800 Colt Circle, Marble Falls, TX 78654.
