Lyman Savory, 79, of Marble Falls, Texas, went to be with his Lord on Nov. 17, 2017. He was born June 28, 1938, the son of Roger & Ruth Tinker Savory. He had been a resident in the Granite Mesa Nursing Facility in Marble Falls since a fall at home resulted in a broken hip. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janis Griffin Savory; two sons, Lynn Roger (Laure) and Douglas Edward (Susan); four grandchildren, Zachariah & Brianne of Texas, and Rebecca & Lucas of North Platte, Nebraska; 13 great grandchildren; a brother, Gerald; and a sister, Lorraine.
Mr. Savory worked in construction as a mechanic until 1970, before moving on to become a professor for the State University of New York, College of Technology at Alfred, School of Vocational Studies in Wellsville, where he was asked to design the Heavy Equipment Truck & Diesel program. After teaching several years specializing in diesel fuel injection, he was asked to become chairman for the Automotive Trades Programs and continued until his retirement in 1993. Moving to Texas, he went to work for the newly created Intermediate Sanction Facility in Burnet until his next retirement. Not liking inactivity, he added a shop to his property keeping busy repairing small engine equipment for himself, friends and neighbors.
A gentle, loving husband & father, his congenial personality endeared him to most everyone he met. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at Dayspring Fellowship Chapel, 5500 Avenue G, in Austin, Texas, Saturday, Dec. 16, at 2 p.m.
